Elementary Music General & Vocal Music (Grades K–5)

Our K–5 music program lays the foundation for lifelong musical learning. Through singing, movement, instrument exploration, and creative expression, students build skills in rhythm, melody, listening, and performance. Guided by state and national arts standards, the program fosters a joyful appreciation of music while supporting each child’s growth as a musician. Our 5th graders participate in a weekly chorus class in addition to their general music class and perform in both the Winter and Spring concerts.

Elementary General/Vocal Music Curriculum

Middle School Vocal Music (Grades 6–8)

The Middle School Chorus program provides a strong foundation in vocal technique, music literacy, and ensemble performance for students in Grades 6 through 8. Through a combination of singing, music theory, movement, and the use of digital tools, students develop skills in rhythm, pitch, diction, and sight-singing. They explore a variety of choral repertoire spanning styles, cultures, and time periods, while building expressive, collaborative, and confident performance habits. Chorus classes meet throughout the school year and include concert performances that showcase student learning and growth.

Middle School Vocal Music Curriculum

High School Chorus (Grades 9-12)

The West Orange High School Chorus Program offers a range of vocal ensembles and courses that support students at every level of experience. Students can participate in choirs by voice type (Treble, Tenor-Bass), join the Concert Choir, or audition for the Honors Chamber Choir. All courses focus on vocal technique, ensemble skills, music literacy, and performance, with units in rhythm, sight-singing, solfège, aural skills, and a wide range of repertoire. Students perform music from diverse styles and time periods and have the opportunity to showcase their growth through concerts and community performances. Additional courses such as Voice Class, Piano Lab, and The History of the American Musical offer deeper exploration of vocal and general music topics.
