• Integrated Preschool Program

    The Integrated Preschool program offered within the West Orange Public Schools is a program, specifically for three and four-year old students. This program is held at the Betty Maddalena Early Learning Center (BMELC), as well as a secondary BMELC site at Washington Elementary School. The tuition for the general education students in the Integrated Preschool program is anticipated to be $500.00 per month for a full day program. Specific payment details will follow prior to September 2022.

    To be eligible for admission to the Integrated Preschool program, students must meet the following criteria:

    • Must be a resident of West Orange.
    • Must be three or four years old on or before October 1, 2022.

    Enrollment in the program for general education students is limited and will be determined by a lottery drawing to be held on May 10, 2022 at the West Orange Board of Education located at the following address: 179 Eagle Rock Avenue, West Orange, New Jersey.

    Special Education students will also be included in this program based upon eligibility for Special Education and Related Services upon being evaluated by the Child Study Team.


    All students in the West Orange Preschool program will attend classes Monday through Friday at one of the following locations:

    • Betty Maddalena Early Learning Center, 747 Northfield Avenue, West Orange; OR
    • Washington Elementary School, 289 Main Street, West Orange.

    Please note, the school location will be determined by district personnel.

    The school hours are 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Parents/guardians will have the option to send lunch with their child or purchase lunch. Additionally, parents/guardians will need to transport their children.

    Applications for the Preschool lottery are available and may be obtained from the district website or in person from the West Orange Board of Education receptionist located at 179 Eagle Rock Avenue, West Orange, New Jersey.
