Mountaineer Milestones: Lymar Curry (Class of 1997)

Lymar Curry01997

When Lymar Curry graduated from West Orange High School in 1997, he had no idea that one day he’d be working with Air Force One, deployed in Baghdad, or managing the residences of former U.S. Presidents. But that’s exactly where his journey has taken him—and he credits his roots in West Orange for laying the foundation.

“I never imagined doing some of the things I’ve done in my lifetime,” Curry shared. “But I owe it all to the education I received from West Orange.”

Shortly after graduation, Curry enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served on active duty from 1997 to 2005. His military career included a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, and a prestigious assignment at Andrews Air Force Base, where he supported operations involving Air Force One. After leaving the military, he graduated from Park University and his path led him deep into federal service—first as an executive assistant for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and later in roles at the National Security Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Department of Health & Human Services.

Today, Curry works for the United States Secret Service and lives in Washington, D.C. He manages the official residences of several former Presidents—a responsibility that speaks volumes about his professionalism, leadership, and integrity. As if that weren’t impressive enough, Curry has also been a licensed real estate agent for 18 years, currently representing Keller Williams.

When asked what shaped him during his high school years, Curry immediately named Miss Rebecca Martin, a teacher who “never gave up” on him and pushed him to reach higher. He also reflects fondly on his time with Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and UMOJA, and says that after-school activities were some of his favorite memories at West Orange High School.

Curry believes the best thing about growing up in West Orange was its diversity and the physical beauty of the town—from the valley neighborhoods to the sweeping views on Mount Pleasant Avenue.

His advice for today’s Mountaineers?

"West Orange High School provides a lot of opportunities—some of which other schools in Essex County don’t offer. Don’t take anything that’s been given to you for granted.”

Lymar Curry’s story is a powerful reminder that with hard work, determination, and a solid foundation, anything is possible. We are proud to celebrate him as part of our Alumni Spotlight Series -- 'Mountaineer Milestones' and even prouder to count him among our West Orange alumni family.
