West Orange High School Presents The Prom: School Edition, April 4-6
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Tickets are now on sale for The Prom: School Edition, West Orange High School's lively and exuberant musical that will lift spirits and hopes for a better world.
Based on a true story, The Prom premiered on Broadway in 2018 and ran for 310 performances. In 2020, a film version starring Meryl Streep and James Corden debuted on Netflix, and the show has continued to grow in popularity, especially among high school theater groups. The school edition has been slightly streamlined for student performances but the themes of equality and acceptance remain at the core of the show.
Four fading and somewhat self-important actors learn about a school in Indiana that has canceled their prom to prevent two LGBTQ girls from attending together. Inspired, they head to the high school to support the girls and improve their images. What unfolds is a story of exploration, not only for the actors, but the girls, students, PTA, and the entire town as they learn to accept one another, embrace change, and become better people in the process.
Performances will be April 4-5 beginning at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm in the West Orange High School auditorium, 554 Pleasant Valley Way. All tickets are general admission and can be purchased HERE. ALL senior citizens in the West Orange community are invited to a FREE dress rehearsal performance on April 3 at 7:00 pm.
