West Orange High School Jazz Band Takes Home Top Honors

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The award-winning music program at West Orange High School added to its successes on March 3 at the New Jersey Association for Jazz Education (NJAJE) Preliminary Competition, held at Liberty Middle School. The event was hosted by the WOHS Music Boosters and Liberty Middle School Band Director Ryan Krewer.

  • Jazz I - Gold rating, outstanding trombone section
  • Jazz II - Silver rating
  • Jazz I members Jake Rea (guitar) and Luvans Lafleur (trombone) received Outstanding Soloist, Honorable Mention

In addition to their Gold rating, Jazz I qualified to compete in NJAJE State Finals to be held at JP Stevens High School on May 3. 

There are two upcoming events to enjoy the Jazz Bands locally:
  • District Jazz Night - March 11 at Liberty Middle School. Featuring the jazz ensembles of Edison, Liberty, Roosevelt, and WOHS, beginning at 7:00 pm
