West Orange High School Jubilee Concert Celebrates Black History
WEST ORANGE, NJ - The annual West Orange High School Black History Month Jubilee concert, held Feb. 11, honored contemporary and traditional Black culture through song and dance.
Under the direction of David Rhone and Michelle Brown, the choir performed spirituals like "Wade in the Water" and "A City Called Heaven," originally sung by Mahalia Jackson. The Optimal Precision Girls Step team brought an enthusiastic routine to the stage and Jubilee Dance added an ephemeral touch. Several seniors added moving musical interpretations, including Sofia and Lucia Pereira, Natalie Tobin, and Riri Arjoon.
“We must never forget that Black History is American History. The achievements of African Americans have contributed to our nation’s greatness.” — Yvette Clarke, U.S. congresswoman
