West Orange High School Freshman Orientation Sets Positive Tone for School Year

WEST ORANGE, NJ - With the start of a new school year around the corner, West Orange High School held an orientation for incoming freshman and transfer students on Aug. 23.

Organized by Conflict Resolution and Student Affairs Coordinator Catherine Connors with the help of the administration, student council, and Mountaineer Mentors, the morning began with the distribution of chromebooks and taking of photo IDs. Students were taken on a tour of the buildings, viewed a slide presentation, filled out "Let's Get to Know One Another" forms, and went on a scavenger hunt. The 400 or so students then filed in to the gym for a Pep Rally led by the Student Council and featuring Monty the Mountaineer and class of 2017 DJ and West Orange Police Officer Justin Davis. The council introduced the high school administrators to an upbeat crowd.

WOHS Principal Oscar Guerrero welcomed students and said, "You will have opportunities and challenges here - WOHS is a special place with a lot to offer. Your responsibility is to make the most of it. Lean on your teachers, mentors, and peers, and we will do anything to help you."

Approximately 525 first-year student students will be attending the high school for the 2024-2025 school year.
