Seton Hall Prep Students Deliver 200 Boxes of Cereal to Hazel Elementary with "Breakfast Boost" Cereal Drive
WEST ORANGE, NJ - First-year students from Seton Hall Prep surprised students at Hazel Elementary School with 200 boxes of cereal on June 12 as part of their "Breakfast Boost" cereal drive.
First-year student Thomas Cannizzo came up with the idea of helping out their neighbors at Hazel. He was inspired by his teacher, Mary Sorgi, who was involved in several charitable organizations. Thomas advertised the collection and recruited help to deliver the cereal to Hazel, a Title I school. The drive began in late April and ran through May.
"The drive could not have come at a better time," noted Thomas, "because Principal Joel Castillo and the Hazel PTA were just about to open a food pantry for needy school families."
The effort provided enough cereal for three grades of students, who gratefully received what would provide several meals for their families, and was delivered by SHP first-year students Thomas Cannizzo, Mario Bagnara, Alexander Correnti, Charlie Grube, Sal Mehalaris, and William Mott.
