Mt. Pleasant Career Day Shows Students the Sky's the Limit
WEST ORANGE, NJ - It was a picture-perfect day at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School on June 7, as parents and community members shared exciting opportunities on Career Day.
Career Day gives students an up-close look at different career paths and connects their learning to the real world. Community members and leaders come into the classroom to share insights about their career and details about necessary education and training for career success. Meanwhile, students get the opportunity to listen to presenters, ask questions, and consider what careers pique their interest.
Mt. Pleasant hosts their annual career day as a special thank you to students in the fourth and fifth grade. There are so many positive reasons to hold career day:
- Career Day exposes students to career opportunities they may not have even known existed. This allows them to think about things they really enjoy and have an interest in.
- Having a parent or community member visit a classroom in person to interact with students, answer questions, and encourage students to research options.
- Community connections are formed, and students can learn from parents and leaders in addition to their teachers. Community diversity allows students to see themselves represented in different careers.
Students happily posed for photos with their visitors on Career Day, who represented a wide range of opportunities:
- Therapist
- Surgeon
- Attorney
- Acupuncturist
- Finance Manager
- Pilot
- Mechanical Engineer
- Baseball Coach
- Police Officer
- Firefighter
- Community Outreach
- Au Pair
- Modern Work Specialist (Google)
- Robotics Teacher
