West Orange High School Celebrates Close of AAPI Month

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange High School Asian Culture Club and United Asian Voices celebrated the close of Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) month on May 31 with an event that brought the community together to learn about the rich cultures that call West Orange their home.

The earlier part of the evening featured booths that offered crafts, information, and Asian snacks like mochi and massamun popcorn. During the second half, Asian Culture Club students engaged the audience with Chinese Dance, K Pop music, martial arts, and audience participation dance and quiz portions that offered books as prizes for correctly answered AAPI questions.

The performance group Elixar entertained with syncopated dance and the evening ended with a "Culture Walk," with community members and students modeling their traditional cultural clothing.

"West Orange is such a beautiful and diverse community," said Superintendent Hayden Moore.

"I'm so proud to be part of a town that respects one another and celebrates all our cultures, and I'm proud to be the Superintendent of a school district with such wonderful students."
