West Orange High School Recognizes Advanced Placement Students

WEST ORANGE, NJ -  West Orange High School students and graduates from the Class of 2023 and 2024 were recognized for outstanding performance in several AP Exams during a program held  May 21 in the Library Media Center. Students' names and their AP achievements will be engraved on permanent plaques outside the LMC.

The success and scope of the AP programs at WOHS continues to grow. Offering more AP classes than many other schools in Essex County, the AP program provides college-level courses and credit to students who receive scores of 3, 4, or 5 in chosen AP Classes. Superintendent Hayden Moore and Assistant Principal Lesley Chung emceed the event, which opened with performances by the WOHS String Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Elena Peres.

  • AP Italian
  • AP Calculus
  • AP US History
  • AP Government and Politics
  • AP French
  • AP Psychology
  • AP Statistics
  • AP World History
  • AP Language and Composition
  • AP Literature and Composition
  • AP Music Theory
  • AP Calculus BC
  • AP Physics C: Mechanics and E and M
  • AP Computer Science A
  • AP Chinese
  • AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature
  • AP Biology
  • AP Environmental Science
  • AP Studio Art 2-D

The categories and requirements for recognition are:

  • Outstanding Academic Performance: recognizes students who received scores of 5 in one or more AP exams.  (West Orange High School created this recognition.)
  • AP Scholar: Granted to students who received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.
  • AP Scholar with Honors: granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.
  • AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and grades of 3 or higher on 4 or more exams.

Moore and Chung distributed certificates and pins to students.

"You are a fine example of the Mountaineer work ethic, and you will lead our country and world to a better place," stated Chung.
