Composer Rossano Galante Rehearses at West Orange High School; Band Students Perform His Works in Concert

WEST ORANGE, NJ – Students in the West Orange High School band program had the incredible opportunity to rehearse with renowned composer Rossano Galante, and to perform one of his works at the Spring Band Concert, held May 16.

Galante has worked as an orchestrator for over 75 films, including “Rambo: Last Blood,” “A Quiet Place I and II,” “The Mummy,” “Mario Brothers,” and many more. Students in the Ninth Grade Band and Concert Band worked with Galante on May 15, and Symphonic Winds and Wind Ensemble on May 16.

Band teachers Josh Zimmer, Erin Lagatic, and Lew Kelly were impressed with Galante’s friendly and easy-going style as he worked with the bands on each of his songs, enhancing the sound and musicianship. Galante himself was impressed with the young musicians and their ability to follow his prompts.

"Our experience with Rossano Galante was a special one," noted Lew Kelly.

"He was super energetic and worked with and inspired all of our bands! A true once in a lifetime opportunity for our students."

When asked what inspires him to create music, Galante said, “I love scoring movies, writing music for different groups, and adjusting the work for each group. I’m inspired by the swelling of the music and the sound of the instruments. It makes me cry.”

Following his rehearsals with the WOHS bands, musicians from neighboring schools traveled to rehearse with him in the auditorium, including Northern Valley at Old Tappan, West Milford HS, North Bergen HS, and Vernon Township High School.
