West Orange High School Hosts Third Annual "Move the Spectrum"
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Despite the dismal drizzle, West Orange High School hosted its best-ever "Move the Spectrum" event on May 10 in the Tarnoff Gym.
With a mission statement of "Connect, Create, and Conquer," Move the Spectrum began in 2022 and is the brainchild of WOHS Physical Education teacher Chuck Mound.
"The event makes you wonder who is teaching who," Mound said.
"The students come to class every day with a smile and ready to learn. This is a way to give back to them so they know how much they are loved throughout their respective schools," he continued.
Participating schools included West Orange, Mt. Olive, Ridgewood, Randolph, Whippany Park, Hanover Park, Roxbury, Wayne Hills, Wayne Valley, and Pequannock. Students were paired with an aide, Best Buddy, or teammate to participate in the various stations, like dancing, face painting and tatoos, racing, tennis, badminton, tug of war, and golf. 250 special needs students attended the event, and it was apparent they were all having a great time. Outside the gym, a huge positivity board was set up for attendees to write notes of inspiration to the students being celebrated.
Several groups came together to make this year's Move the Spectrum: West Orange High School students and staff, AFJROTC, Rutger's University, West Orange Warriors, and more. Kristie Keleshian, WOHS grad and CBS reporter, covered the event along with WPIX.
