West Orange High School Musicians Shine at Region I Band Festival
WEST ORANGE, NJ - The curricular bands of West Orange High School participated in the North Jersey School Music Association/Region I Concert Band Festival at Hanover Park Regional High School on March 21, and Parsippany Hills High School on March 22, receiving several awards.
The Ninth Grade Band, under the direction of Joshua Zimmer, and the Concert Band and Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Erin Lagatic, all received Silver ratings. The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Lewis Kelly, received a Gold rating. Symphonic Winds received a special award for Outstanding Woodwind Section and the Wind Ensemble received two special awards for the Outstanding Brass and the Outstanding Percussion Sections. Senior Charlotte Lewis also received an Outstanding Musicianship Award for her flute solo in the piece "Trail of Tears" by James Barnes.
The Wind Ensemble has been chosen to represent Region I (North Jersey) in the New Jersey State Concert Band Gala Concert. This concert, to be held at Rowan University on Sunday, April 30, will feature the top four scoring bands from each region of the state (North, Central, and South).
"The Wind Ensemble is proud to represent West Orange in this prestigious event for the thirteenth year," said Kelly.
