West Orange Boys Soccer Kicks Into Gear for New Season
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Following on the heels of last year's successful 11-5-2 season, West Orange High School Boys Soccer is kicking into gear and setting its sights on division and tournament championships.
Head Coach Doug Nevins is headed into his 20th year of coaching with a career record of 307-94-32. Greg Marchesini returns as Assistant Varsity Coach, Freddy Christian coaches JV, and Brayan Martinez serves as Freshman Coach.
"Overall, we have won five conference, two county, six sectional, and two Group IV Championships," Nevins said, "and North I Group IV and the SEC American Division in 2015."
Senior Defender Yasin Aly, Connor Hinfey (junior - Defender), Kalleo Mendes (junior- Midfield and Forward), and Julien Carraha (junior - Midfield) are this season's co-captains.
"The team is very talented this year," Nevins continued, "and we have a nice blend of speed, skill, size and experience."
All four co-captains agree that they have returned with a serious approach to the game and to the team.
"We know we're a younger team," said Carraha. "We lost a lot of seniors in June, but we're taking this seriously and not fooling around."
"We're already doing well," noted Mendes, "and we will be even stronger next season."
In addition to the co-captains, Nevins noted several other strong players to watch:
Junior midfielders Dario Carraha (Julien's brother) and Justin Reid; senior Forward Aleks Cardoza and sophomore Forward Ari Rosu.
"These guys are all experienced varsity players and have stood out in the summer," Nevins explained.
