West Orange High School Senior Named YoungArts National Competition Winner
WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange High School senior Destiny Diggs-Pinto has been recognized as one of the 2019 YoungArts Competition winners, selected from a field of over 7,000 high school musicians nationally.
Only 710 students were selected for the prestigious recognition. Recipients of the award will have lifelong access to the National YoungArts Foundation, along with support, encouragement, and opportunity. This includes participation in YoungArts Week or regional programs in Los Angeles, Miami, or New York.
Destiny's talent on the string bass is already well-known in the community, where she is part of the award-winning WOHS Wind Ensemble and also plays with the Orchestra. She has been part of the New Jersey Youth Symphony and New Jersey Region I Orchestra and Band, and participated in Jazz House Kids.
She has also played professionally with artists like Christian McBride and John DeJohnette.
"I hope to be hearing back from colleges over the next two weeks so I can make my decision," said Destiny. She plans to continue on her musical journey following graduation from West Orange in June.
