Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser Raises Over $20,000 for Graduating West Orange High School Students
WEST ORANGE, NJ – The Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser, held at Mayfair Farms on Oct. 7, raised over $20,000 for scholarships for graduating West Orange High School seniors planning to pursue careers in law enforcement.
Event sponsors underwrote the cost of the event and all monies raised will go directly to the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded at West Orange High School Senior Awards night in late May. The scholarship is distributed through the West Orange Scholarship Foundation, who awarded over $61,000 in scholarships to students this year.
Donald and Lisa Shauger, founders of the Shauger Group, established the scholarship in 2014 in memory of West Orange Police Department Officer Timothy Groves, who passed away in 2013 following a valiant battle with cancer. Last year, graduating WOHS senior Thomas Sayers was the first recipient of the scholarship. He is currently pursuing studies in law enforcement at Leo University in Florida.
Former New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford, a friend of the Shaugers, made an appearance in support of the fundraiser. The TGMS Committee is comprised of Lisa Shauger (Chairwoman), Donald Shauger, Richard Rizzolo (WOSF), James Quinn (WOSF), WOPD Officer Christopher Jacksic (WO PBA Local 25 President), Darren Dangler and Nicholas Saraceno.
“Timmy Groves’ work and memory will live on in this scholarship,” said Donald Shauger.
