WEST ORANGE, NJ - Students in the Digital Music Production Club have produced an original all student produced “Mountaineers School Spirit Song” as part of their club activities.
Students Jon Montuma, Jaquan Smith, Isiah Baskerville, Loucille Magloire, Dominique Layne, and Mazen Dahroug visited Club Advisor Tyrone Corbett’s professional recording studio May 18 to record vocals and beats for the Mountaineers School Spirit Song they are working on as part of the Digital Music Production Club. This year students will produce a video and learn about the copyrighting process for the song and video.
Tyrone Corbett received a Bachelor's in Commercial Music and his 30 year career includes experiences as a singer, songwriter, producer, engineer, Record Executive and Music Publisher. He has traveled nationally and internationally as a back-up singer for legendary Jazz and R&B artists and sung on a Grammy-winning folk album. He contributed on a number one Billboard Hip Hop and R&B album as an engineer, has worked with artists from America's Got Talent, American Idol, and with artists signed to Wyclef Jean and Diddy's "Making the Band" TV series.
The Digital Music Production Club at West Orange High School meets Thursdays in the Piano Lab from 2:20 - 3:30 pm and provides students with a hands-on experience learning various aspects and techniques of music production and recording.
"The goal of the Digital Music Production Club is to allow students to gain understanding of the areas in the music industry that can be viable pathways to employment and career opportunities besides being a recording artist," said Corbett.
"If students are interested in the music industry this club is perfect for them," Corbett continued. "We have a fully-functioning production lab with all the latest hardware and software applications as well as digital drums, guitars, and microphones for recording."
