SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING RESOURCES
The West Orange Public Schools/School Counseling Department will be available to address the social, emotional and academic needs of the students. School Counselors and Student Assistance Counselors (SAC) will continue to meet with students individually and in small groups. They will communicate information to students via Google Classrooms, Naviance, emails and ClassDojo depending on grade level. We ask parents and students to access the appropriate line of communication daily for information from the counselors.
School Counselors and Student Assistance Counselors (SAC) will be checking and responding to voicemails and emails daily. Email is the best avenue to reach the School Counselor and SAC. The counselors are available for in person meetings by appointment. To schedule an appointment, students and parents may email or call the assigned School Counselor or SAC directly to determine a mutually agreed upon date/time.
What is SEL?
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Research has found that sustained and comprehensive SEL programming has been found to positively impact academic achievement, social and emotional well-being, and classroom behavior.
Communicating With You
Our favorite part of our job is meeting with students face to face! That said, the School Counselors and our SACs, are using Zoom video conferencing and Google Meets to connect with students as needed or requested. You can email your counselor to set up a phone call or Google Meet, and/or counselors may contact home via email or telephone.
