Welcome to Roosevelt Middle School

  • Roosevelt Middle School, nationally recognized and honored by the Federal Department of Education as a special place. We implement an interdisciplinary concept in which a team of teachers attend to the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of its students. An extensive Extra Curricular Program allows students to pursue interests beyond the academic core. Roosevelt students consistently win more than their share of honors and awards in Essex County and in the State of New Jersey.  Roosevelt Middle School was selected in 2008 as a “New Jersey School to Watch.” It was recognized as such for its emphasis on academic rigor, personal connections within the building, and its entire school community working together to create a positive atmosphere conducive to learning.  In 2021, Roosevelt was ranked a US News & World Report Best Middle School in NJ.

In the academic core, all students study Math, Science, English Language Arts, World Language and Social Studies. Honors level courses are offered in the core subject areas. In seventh grade students also take an Investigation of STEM course and Computer Literacy. At both grade levels, four World Languages are available to students in French, Italian, Chinese and Spanish. Related Arts courses are conducted in Physical Education, Health, Art, Crafts, and STEM. A Life Skills and a Hygiene course is available for our special needs population as well. Musically inclined students participate in Band, Chorus, or Orchestra. Enrichment classes in Select Chorus, Select Strings, and Jazz Band are also offered. To monitor and evaluate student progress, the NJSLA test was previously administered to seventh and eighth graders in which Roosevelt students measured improvements in both grade levels.

The Roosevelt School also has a nationally recognized program for Special Needs students. The students in the program are mainstreamed as much as possible and integrated into all Related Arts and Co-Curricular activities.

Roosevelt continues to implement a strong Character Education Program and a strong anti-bullying program. The results have demonstrated a high level of success.

An incredible complement of co-curricular activities is available to students. Roosevelt Middle School continues to offer one of the most comprehensive programs and learning experiences in the state of New Jersey for its students.
