West Orange High School Class of 2019 Alumna Makes History with West Point Military Academy Graduation
WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange High School Class of 2019 alumna Vanessa Sofia Lettman graduated from The United States Military Academy at West Point on May 25, making history as the first woman from West Orange and the first woman of color from Essex County to graduate from West Point.
2LT Lettman has chosen the Adjutant General branch of the Army (Personnel Operations). In July, she will start a three-month Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, and will then report to her first duty station at Fort Cavazos, TX, in November.
Following graduation, Vanessa was commissioned as a 2LT in the United States Army by her older sister, Jasmyn Lettman, a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and a 2015 WOHS alum. Both Jasmyn and Vanessa are proud alumni of the Air Force JROTC program at the high school.
