West Orange High School Orchestra Holds Special Workshop with Edison Middle School Musicians

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange High School Orchestra hosted the Edison Middle School Chamber Orchestra for a special workshop on April 25, allowing the young musicians to perform with their high school counterparts.

After a warm-up, the students settled on the auditorium stage and were grouped according to instrument: violin, viola, cello, and double bass, plus the particular positions students play in their respective sections.

The result was an impressive collaboration between musicians. West Orange High School Orchestra Director Dr. Elena Peres led the musicians with the help of Edison Middle School Orchestra teacher Angel Liu. Students performed several songs, including "Crosscurrent" by R. Longfield and "Air Warriors" by E. Donahoe.

"The combined energy of both middle and high school orchestra members created an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and dedication," began Dr. Peres.

"Despite the varying skill levels, everyone approached the session with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn from one another. The older students provided valuable guidance and support to the middle school students, fostering a sense of mentorship and camaraderie within the ensemble. It was a productive and inspiring rehearsal that showcased the collective talent and passion of our orchestra community," she added.
