Welcome to my Teacher Page!
I am entering my 8th year as a West Orange High School English teacher (after four years in an NYC public school). I have always been a lover of words-- reading and writing-- and search every year to spark a similar interest in my students. How can we be so different, yet so connected? How can one sentence be so perfect and so true, sometimes for hundreds of years? As an American Literature teacher, I love helping students make connections to the historical periods they may be learning about in their Social Studies classes. Literature is a great window into worlds and times far from our own.
I have also been the Mountaineer yearbook adviser for the past six years. Each year I work with a dedicated team of students to make a beautiful lasting memory. Yearbook is another medium which must be timely as well as timeless. It is a pleasure to create.
My home is now Jersey City (although I am a West Orange native; a graduate of both Gregory and Roosevelt!). I live with my husband and three young daughters. In my little spare time, you can find me running or heading to the beach.
In my class we use the Google Classroom. If you would like to understand more about the Google Classroom, please watch this short video. Only students and faculty within the West Orange school system have Google Apps for Education accounts, therefore you will not be able to directly access your child's Google Classroom. However, please know that all of my assignments are available via that portal. An online calendar houses all assignment posts and students are reminded online about their classwork and upcoming homework that is due. Any handouts or reference materials I use in class are available to your students 24/7 there, and they know this. There is also a free Google Classroom App that can be downloaded on your student's phone to access the Google Classroom. If you would like to know more about a specific assignment or discuss any aspect of your student's performance in my class, please email me.
During the 2015-16 School Year, I will be teaching Honors American Literature, English 10, and Yearbook. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, or if you would like to purchase a yearbook ad! I am available for extra help after school and at lunch on certain days. Students should make an appointment so I know when to stay in my classroom.
