Ms. Teresa Harris
Hello! Welcome to the profile page of Teresa Harris, English teacher at West Orange High School.
I am passionate about teaching English because I love the universality of language. I believe that poetry and prose contain both questions and answers. Therefore, I approach the instruction of English as an experience in which students use various texts to question history and the status quo, as well as their own opinions and beliefs. Outside of being a teacher, I am the published author of four works of fiction for children: Summer Jackson: Grown Up; The Perfect Place; Gabriela and Gabriela Speaks Out (from the American Girl series).
In my class we use Google Classroom. If you would like to understand more about the Google Classroom, please watch this short video. Only students and faculty within the West Orange school system have Google Apps for Education accounts. Therefore, you will not be able to directly access your child's Google Classroom. However, please know that all of my assignments are available via that portal. An online calendar houses all assignment posts and students are reminded online about their classwork and upcoming homework that is due. Any handouts or reference materials I use in class are available to your students 24/7 there, and they know this. There is also a free Google Classroom App that can be downloaded on your student's phone to access our Google Classroom as well. If you would like to know more about a specific assignment or discuss any aspect of your student's performance in my class, please email me.
During the 2017-1018 school year, I will be teaching Honors Survey of American Literature, College Preparatory Survey of American Literature, and Creative Writing.
Students, please use the "Web Resources" link to the left to to access my Google site for your specific class.
