Health Office

  • The School Health Officer/ School Nurse guides and assists parents, students, school staff and administration in promoting and adhering to our public health’s mission in the prevention, reduction and controlling the incidence of the spread of illness and disease within the school and its community.

Our district and the West Orange Board of Education promote health and wellness and support healthy classrooms and a safe school food environment.

Cooperation and team work has been attributed to many successes. Our team is our staff and administration and you, the parents and students. Our school needs everyone involved to keep each one of us healthy and safe so that we can help educate our students, our future leaders and educators.

As a general rule, your child should not go to school if they have:

    • A fever over 100.4°Fahrenheit (F). Your child can return to school after they are 24 hours fever-free without antipyretic medications (medications that reduce fever).
    • Signs they are unusually tired and weak.
    • Diarrhea.
    • Vomiting - must be 24 hours without vomiting before returning to school.
    • Coughing that disrupts normal activity.
    • Wheezing or shortness of breath.
    • Pain from an earache, headache, sore throat, or injury that disrupts their normal activity.
    • A rash with a fever, or a rash that is painful/itchy where it disrupts their normal activity.

*If you are unsure, please check with the school nurse for guidance.

As part of our comprehensive health care program, the following health screenings are conducted at Liberty Middle School:

Parents will be notified if results from any of these screenings suggest the need for further evaluation by the student’s physician.
