Hazel Principal Receives Recognition at CORESSWC Event
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Hazel Elementary School Principal Joel Castillo was recognized at the annual Circle of Rainbow Sisters Seeking Spiritual Wellness and Connection (CORESSWC) Financial Literacy fundraiser event, held June 30 at West Orange High School.
Castillo, along with Gerald Fitzhugh II and Barry Devone III, were guests of honor at the Women Who Rock in the Kitchen fundraiser. CORESSWC has offered financial literacy education for the past several years to young people in West Orange. Castillo was presented with a "Proclamation of Recognition/Dedication of Service" from Mayor Susan McCartney for his successful efforts to create an inclusive learning environment at Hazel where students feel safe. Hazel has been in the news lately, most notably for the renovation of their outdoor classroom, creation of a food pantry and outdoor greenhouse at the school. Seton Hall Prep recently donated 200 boxes of cereal to their pantry as well.
