Gregory Elementary School Holds Annual Turkey Trot and Balloon Celebration

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Gregory Elementary School held its annual Turkey Trot on Nov. 26, bringing the school community together to enjoy some fresh air and provide miles of smiles for students and staff.

As a bonus, students in K-2 had a balloon celebration under sunny skies.

Traditional turkey trots are long distance runs held in and around Thanksgiving. The first recorded event was held in Buffalo, New York, in 1896. Today, turkey trots have grown in popularity and, according to RunSignup, Thanksgiving is "the biggest U.S. running day of the year."

Superintendent Hayden Moore stopped by to cheer on the runners, walkers, and ballooners, while Principal Makeida Hewitt donned a holiday themed costume, another popular feature of today's turkey trots.

After thanking the staff, the Gregory PTA added, "Together, we created core memories that we’ll cherish forever."
