Liberty Middle School Walkout Says "Enough"
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Liberty Middle School held a 17-minute walkout on March 14 in memory of the 17 students and teachers killed in the Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Teachers and staff felt the walkout was powerful for those who participated. The student-led safety team that was created after the February 14 tragedy in Parkland put together their thoughts and actions to get the message out that students should not have to face violence in our schools. Their message directed to government officials was one of "enough is enough" and to do something to prevent further violence and lost lives due to gun violence.
"Around 475, or 91 per cent of our students chose to participate in today's student-led peaceful protest," said Principal Bob Klemt, "and to honor the lives lost in Parkland. Our students acted so responsibly during the 17-minute tribute," he noted.
