West Orange High School AP Scholars Honored

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Several West Orange High School students and graduates from the Class of 2022 and 2023 were recognized for outstanding performance in several AP Exams at a program held on May 16 in the Library Media Center. Students' names and their AP achievements will be engraved on permanent plaques outside the LMC .

The success and scope of the AP programs at WOHS continues to grow. Offering more AP classes than many other schools in Essex County, the AP program provides college-level courses and credit to students who receive scores of 3, 4, or 5 in chosen AP Classes. Acting Superintendent Hayden Moore, Principal Oscar Guerrero,  Assistant Principal Annette Towson, and Assistant Principal Lesley Chung were on hand to greet students, faculty, and guests, which opened with a performance by the WOHS String Ensemble.

The categories and requirements for recognition are:

  • Outstanding Academic Performance: recognizes students who received scores of 5 in one or more AP exams.  (West Orange High School created this recognition.)
  • AP Scholar: Granted to students who received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.
  • AP Scholar with Honors: granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.
  • AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who received an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and grades of 3 or higher on 4 or more exams.
  • National AP Scholar: Granted to students in the United States who received an average grade of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
