Successful AFJROTC "Camp Falcon" Offers First-of-its-Kind Opportunity In New Jersey
WEST ORANGE, NJ - In a first-of-its-kind event in New Jersey, the West Orange High School AFJROTC "Camp Falcon" wrapped on July 9, offering students a unique glimpse into military life and the opportunities it can provide post-graduation.
54 students in grades 7-11 attended the military bootcamp-style training course, where they learned and experienced:
- Leadership and followership skills
- Self discipline
- Teamwork
- Basic first aid (WOFD)
- Self defense (Guerrero Martials Arts)
- Land Navigation (SFC Robert Desch, US Army National Guard, retired)
- USAF Drill and Ceremonies (AFROTC Detachment 485 cadets from Rutgers Univ)
- Physical training
- Tour of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst
- Completed obstacle course at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst
- US Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter landing/mission brief at WOHS.
The AFJROTC hopes to hold another Camp Falcon experience in 2023.
