West Orange High School Student Receives $1,500 Math Scholarship

WEST ORANGE, NJ – West Orange High School sophomore Rayyan Khan received a $1,500 scholarship for tutoring at Fraser Mathematics Solutions on March 30. Khan was selected from a large group of students who participated in a rigorous application process.

CEO and Founder Jaliyla Fraser presented Khan with his scholarship certificate, a math study book and a unique “dope math notebook.” Fraser was particularly impressed by Khan’s application, saying that he took the initiative to improve his math skills, cutting out video games during the week. She applauded his efforts and affirmed him in his academic pursuits, encouraging him to remember his achievements along the way.

The award was named after Elbert Frank Cox, an American mathematician and the first black person in the world to receive a PhD in mathematics, which he earned at Cornell University in 1925.

“I’m very honored to receive this scholarship,” said Khan.

“I promise that I will do my best and take full advantage of this opportunity,” he added.
