West Orange High School AFJROTC Hosts First-Ever Drill Competition
WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange High School AFJROTC hosted their first-ever drill competition on April 6, and by all accounts, it was a fun-filled, relationship building, friendly, and competitive day.
"Drill competitions are events during which JROTC units come together to compete in military-type events," explained Maj. Joseph Marchesini (USAF Ret.) who runs the ROTC program at WOHS.
"Examples of events include Armed and Unarmed Color Guard procedures, rifle exhibitions, physical training and academics. Our kids don't actually participate as the hosts, but they planned, organize and execute the event. 11 schools from NJ, NY and PA traveled to the high school to compete, with about 500 guests in total."
Participating groups were:
Cadets Vanessa Lettman, Rayne Obreiter, Austin Cowley, Caden Siva and Mike Cespedes
