Beetlejuice Jr. Rocks at Roosevelt Middle School
WEST ORANGE, NJ - Roosevelt Middle School is presenting its spring musical, Beetlejuice Jr. in performances beginning at 7:00 pm April 24, 25, and 26, and it couldn't have happened at a better time. The show totally rocks, and will be an entertaining diversion to theatergoers young and old.
It's been said before, but today's middle school musicals have evolved into full-fledged productions with high-tech sound, lighting, sets, and costumes. Most importantly, the performances and vocals are stellar, and the audience will be astonished to see and hear the caliber of talent that fills the room.
Lydia Deetz recently lost her mother. She and her dad are out of touch with each other, though he does care. Grieving, Lydia dresses in black and obsesses over death. Her dad moves them into a new home that just happens to be inhabited by two ghosts and a demon named Beetlejuice. Lydia can see them, and befriends them to help her get her dad to move back to their old home.
What unfolds is a zany, mixed-up escapade that ultimately gets to the heart of the show: how a grieving daughter and father finally connect so that healing can begin and life can go on.
All the performers, including the multi-talented actors and ensemble cast, shine, but Beatrice Peterson as Lydia and Maya Erez- Santana as Beetlejuice are outstanding. Peterson's vocals soar effortlessly as she believably portrays a grieving daughter, and Erez-Santana channels Michael Keaton as an endearing Beetlejuice.
The show is appropriate for all ages and its dark themes are approached with sensitivity and lightheartedness. Tickets, $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, are still available HERE for performances.
