West Orange High School Sophomore to Attend Prestigious Engineering Program

WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange High School sophomore Robeson Bennett has been accepted into Cornell University's prestigious Catalyst Academy.

According to the website, students Catalyst Academy "spend one week on the Cornell campus, living in dormitories, and networking with current Cornell Engineering students, faculty, and a diverse group of participants from across the country. Participants attend daily classes in one area of study led by a Cornell Engineering faculty member, and work cooperatively under the supervision of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students to execute and present a research project. The Academy seeks primarily to develop literacy surrounding engineering as a major course of study in college, showcase career and graduate school pathways in engineering, and demystify the admissions process."

From July 16-22, Bennett will have the opportunity to participate in ten field sessions across Cornell's engineering majors, joining with a diverse group of minds "including those from backgrounds historically excluded from and underrepresented in STEM fields."  As a participant, he will collaborate with like-minded STEM students and explore the Cornell Engineering Department.  As one of 52 applicants selected for the competitive program, Bennett will also attend on a full merit scholarship.
