Mr. Paul Atsma

Much has changed in the quarter century since I began teaching. What I believe is important about the education of your children has not.

I will continue to devote my energies to creating a comfortable environment where children experience joy while learning. Students will learn a lot, and have fun doing so.

We will examine the past and connect concepts to the time we live in. We will analyze the problems and successes of civilizations preceding ours, while applying 'lessons learned' to our modern world. We will see that the past can provide role models and inspiration for today.

Further, in a society where virtually unlimited information is available, we will examine sources for accuracy and bias. Reading and writing skills will be a focus, as students will be asked to demonstrate more mature cognitive abilities.

I continue my firm belief that knowledge, thought, reflection, and evaluation of information are important, worthwhile, vital components of education.

(Having coached the Boys Basketball Team for many years, it is possible we have met in that context previously. I want to assure you that I am much less "intense" in the classroom - most of the time.
