Welcome to my page, where I hope to share a little bit about myself and my course here at Thomas Edison Central Six School.
As the world moves towards a global community, it is increasingly important to be able to communicate in languages other than English. It is imperative to understand the perspectives of a culture that generate its patterns of behavior, ways of life, worldviews, and contributions. Proficiency in a second language is a vehicle to gaining knowledge that can only be acquired through that language and its culture. The study of a second language enables students to develop insights into the nature of language and culture.
This is my 12th year in the district of West Orange and I am proud to share that I have taught everything from Kindergarten to 8th grade during my tenure here.
One of my favorite aspects of teaching is watching students acquire an understanding and appreciation for a culture and a language that is different than their own and become intrigued about these differences and similarities. The best student is he who at first may not be interested and suddenly something sparks inside and the potential of being bilingual becomes very appealing. Students can only learn if they are genuinely interested in the subject, therefore we try to make the lessons and activities enjoyable and educational.
I will require students to always try their personal best. If a student puts forth effort it is likely s/he will succeed, it may come at different times but success is imminent if the effort is there.
Please be proactive if a lesson or a part of a lesson was confusing or needs clarification, email me as soon as you have a question, I will respond right away.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you towards bilingualism/multilingualism.
