WEST ORANGE, NJ - Three West Orange Board of Education members were recognized at the April 6 Essex County School Boards Association meeting for achieving advanced training certification. In addition, current West Orange Board of Education President Sandra Mordecai was elected as the new President of the Essex County School Board.
Mark Robertson became a Certificated Board Member, Laura Lab achieved Master Board Member Certfication, and Mordecai became a Certified Board Leader. Extensive training hours are required to achieve certification at any level within the New Jersey School Boards Association.
Certificated Board Member - 20 Credits
Master Board Member - 40 credits and must pass exam
Certified Board Leader - 60 credits and must pass exam
Areas of training and study for certification include Sustainability/STEAM, advocacy, Labor Relations, Finance, Leadership, Governance, Student Achievement, Legal/Policy and District Savings.
Along with the recognition for Mordecai, Lab and Robertson, the entire West Orange Board of Education including Ron Charles and Irv Schwarzbaum, was re-certified in 2016.
