West Orange Football Stuns First-Place Montclair, 29-26

The Mountaineers scored the first touchdown of the game in the first with Michael Osuji’s one-yard rush. Osuji scored again in the second and Montclair responded with two touchdowns by Daniel Webb, one on a one-yard run and with a PAT by Dallas Young and another TD on a five-yard run. Montclair led 13-12 at the half.
West Orange kicker Ryan Carraha landed a 40-yard field goal in the third, but the action was in the fourth as Osuji once again ran in two TD’s, one on a seven-yard rush and the other on a 40-yard rush, with Carraha’s kicks both good.
Montclair’s Tarrin Earle passed to Robert Nicolas and Daniel Webb for an additional two TD’s but it was not enough to overcome the West Orange lead. The game belonged to Michael Osuji with 26 carries, 170 yards, six receptions for 40 yards and four touchdowns. CJ Wilson had a strong showing with 80 yards (receiving) and 60 yards (rushing).
The Mountaineers are now 3-1 in their conference division and 4-3 after winning three in a row, previously defeating Morristown 42-14 and Barringer 47-14.
Our kids played very well today," said Head Coach James Matsakis.
"We lost to three very good teams this year, so we were very motivated to play well against Montclair. Montclair is an extremely good and well-coached team that always is mentioned among the best in the state and traditionally had dominated our conference," he continued.
"Today was the next step in the goals our seniors have set for the program this past summer. We need to improve and get ready for a tough Livingston opponent and set the stage for a memorable run in the remainder of the season," he concluded.
The Mountaineers will face Livingston on Oct. 29 in an away game beginning at 1 pm.
